Sustainable forms of mobility have proven to be less of a risk factor than cars. Yet, sustainable forms of mobility are not or less used due to fears regarding security. The project “SicherMobil” aims to find ways to reduce insecurity and fears regarding sustainable forms of mobility such as public transport or walking.

The exploratory research project “SicherMobil” aims to develop a conceptual system that can help people in losing their fears and insecurities towards mobility and thus make it more acceptable.

In a first step the goal is to answer these questions:

  • Can modern mobile communication technologies help minimize the subjective feeling of insecurity? If so, how?
  • How can these technologies help already in the planning phase to avoid hotspots of insecurity?
  • How can already existing hotspots of insecurity be eliminated, thus increasing the attractiveness of multi-modal and sustainable forms of mobility?

After identifying the target groups and their specific fears, already existing systems will be analyzed. The different requirements of people from the target groups, representatives of executive and public bodies will be determined in a set of networking workshops.

The result and benefit of this project will be a guideline, which clearly states measures to improve the subjectively felt security. In addition, future areas of research and development requirements will be identified.

The one-year project is funded by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (Program: Mobilität der Zukunft, Project ID: 865182)
